Competency Values Framework (CVF)
The CVF provide a nationally recognised consistent set of behaviours and clear expectations for everyone working in policing.
They include the three core values
- Courage
- Respect and empathy
- Public service
The framework also incorporates six competencies, described as skills, abilities and practical behaviours that contribute to effective job performance. These are;
- We are emotionally aware
- We take ownership
- We collaborate
- We support and inspire
- We analyse critically
- We are innovative and open-minded
Each competency has three levels, which can be used flexibly to allow for a better fit with frontline and non-frontline policing roles, and at different levels of seniority. The values are not split into levels as everyone in policing is expected to display the same values regardless of their role or seniority.
- Level 1: Practitioner
- Level 2: Supervisor/middle manager
- Level 3: Senior manager/executive
Across Bedfordshire Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, the CVF is used in different areas and is important to familiarise yourself with this for any roles you may be applying for as the framework will be used within the interview process. In your preparation consider the examples you may have under these competency areas.
The role profile for the role you are applying for will indicate which level the job is at (i.e. Practitioner, Supervisor, Senior Manager).
